I’m currently writing the novella series A Place of Refuge with Kalikoi:
Telepathic warrior Talia Avi, genius engineer Miki Boudreaux, and augmented soldier Faigin Balfour fought the fascist Federated Colonies for ten years, following the charismatic dissenter Jon Churchill. Then Jon disappeared, Talia was thought dead, and Miki and Faigin struggled to take Jon’s place and stay alive. When the FC is unexpectedly upended, Talia is reunited with her friends and they are given sanctuary on the enigmatic planet Refuge. The trio of former guerillas strive to recover from lifetimes of trauma, build new lives on a planet with endless horizons, and forge tender new connections with each other.

Victoria Janssen [she, her] currently writes cozy space opera for Kalikoi. Her most recent print novel is The Duke & the Pirate Queen from Harlequin Spice, fantasy erotica including pirates, sharks, and the Island of the Lotus Eaters. It’s set in the same universe as her first novel, The Duchess, Her Maid, the Groom & Their Lover, an erotic picaresque which has been translated into French, German, and Russian.
Her major historical research interest is World War I, which is reflected in some of her fiction. Her second novel, The Moonlight Mistress, was a finalist for an RT Book Reviews Reviewers’ Choice Award. A tie-in story with a cross-dressing soldier heroine, “Under Her Uniform,” was translated into Japanese and Dutch. Short stories “The Aid Station, 1916,” “Delivery,” and “Poppies Are Not the Only Flower” also use a World War I setting.
Janssen’s short stories have been published in anthologies from Sex in the System: Stories of Erotic Futures, Technological Stimulation, and the Sensual Life of Machines to Periphery: Erotic Lesbian Futures, as well as in several volumes of The Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica. Most recently, “Still Marching” appears in Best Lesbian Erotica of the Year Volume 3. Complete bibliography.
Other interests include fan fiction, fan studies, comics, choral singing, houseplants, and fighting injustice. She lives in Philadelphia and is a member of The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association (formerly The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America).
